We place an order for pickup, the policy for picking up and paying cash is 10% off. I went to pickup the food, I did not receive a receipt, I paid full price including the 13% taxes, I don’t know who kept the money, the discount and the TAXES that I paid, but I sure didn’t get my 10% discount. Very dishonest business practices. The food was bad and most items were cold, in addition, it gave me diarrhea, I will never return due to these reasons.
Went for Dim Sum when it was super packed. Their dim sum is terrible. Everything had corn and ham in it. I've never had corn and ham in my dim sum until this restaurant. The carts with the same food go around and around and around with barely anything new. The food is dead cold when you get it because they just circle around multiple times. We did not understand how it was so packed when the food was absolutely terrible. There was that one lady that kept circling around with the same cart with dim sum nobody wanted that she kept persuading people to get. Never get anything from her, there is a reason why she keeps going around with the same items (not newly replenished ones at that). We noticed it was packed with a lot of non-chinese as well, not sure if their taste is different from what we are used to from all the other dim sum places we've been to our whole life, but their hargow and siumai were the worst I've ever had in my life. Not worth the $70 we had to pay. Maybe their regular non-dim sum menu is better, but this experience has turned us off completely from going back.
Emerald Chinese restaurant was one of the best restaurants in Mississauga, also its one of my family's favorite restaurants. I used to live in Mississauga for four years, so, most of the time we celebrated our family occasions in this restaurant. This is the only restaurant always full in the weekend. We used wait for the free and clean tables for at least 30 minutes. It has a big parking lot and the building has built with glasses for three sides, so we can see outside while we are eating the food. I should say about the food, those are really awesome foods. I mean I never had a soup such like theirs, especially the "Hot and sour soup" anybody cannot beat them. I used to order that soup every single time when I go there. Indeed, their Fried Rice also great and the portion of the foods are really good. It was really reasonable prices before, but now they are increasing their price level, which is not impressible. However, another good thing is they open until 12 midnight, which is really good for party people. Actually, I would say that I was a regular customer of this restaurant, and I really liked the food. However, the cashier place or the washroom are not clean as they should be, also some of the waiters are really rude. I mean some of the waiters are response properly but some are not. One day me and my sister went there to buy some food for the take-out, we ordered the foods and everything, but we had to wait there almost 45 minutes. So, we asked the cashier that, "we have been waiting here for 45 minutes, but we have not got our foods yet." But, that cashier lady reply back to us with a bad-mannered. After 15 minutes we got our foods, but they did not put in a proper way and also we missed some foods too. In fact, she told us a different price before we order our food, but then when we pay the cash she said a different price. We got really mad, and we told that lady, "we are not very impress with this, so we need talk to your manager or the owner." So, the cashier said, "I am the owner of this restaurant, but I cannot do anything for you and this is the final price." She just ignored us and she started to get a orders from other customers. However, most of the customers were start to leave from there, and they also got mad on her too. Since that incident happened we have decided that not to go there anymore.
I love Dim Sum and have been here about 10 times because it is the closest Dim Sum to my house. However the last couple visits have been disappointing. The problem is the lack of Dim Sum carts, The restaurant will be full and they sometimes only have 2 carts going around in a 200 person restaurant. Also many of the standard favorites like shui mai, har gow and sticky rice often seem to be missing from the offerings."Later" is the only response I get when asking for something. I waited 20 minutes to see something I wanted and the same cart of buns just kept coming by. Then when a new cart finally comes out it heads to the section of people that were just seated instead of the section of people who had been there the longest. Almost everyone around us had empty tables. Also, the fact that many of the cart items are ice cold doesn't help either. Its a shame its so hit or miss because I have had some great meals there.
have been going here to eat for years and I always will...food never dissapoints...I won't complain about the service, the place is always extremely busy and I think that speaks for itself
i occasionally eat at this restaurant. but i avoided coming, due the fact that the tall woman always makes you buy her food on her car and puts the price higher than it should be. cleaning up the washroom would be a lot better. the cashier always in a bad mood. sometime taking 20 minutes to take the money. i do not like the fact that sometime they do not give you the change expecting all of it is tips.
I've been a long-time customer of this restaurant. I'm satisfied with the service overall. But many of my friends are unwilling to go there because due to extremely poor service and poor hygiene. Actually the waiters have told me that their tip is extremely unfairly allocated, as management has the largest share of it, causing the waiters much unhappiness & inability to offer quality service. I see many comments posted here criticizing on the waiters' service, well now you know why. I stopped going to that restaurant now because the food prices keep increasing very frequently - when I inquire about food prices with the manager, he just makes a funny face and walks away without giving proper explanation. This rudeness expressed toward a long-time customer says a lot about management quality. Also, the bill was "mistakenly" inflated on many occasions (this happened to many people I know including myself) - I assume management was hoping people do not check the bill content and want to suck more money out of their customers in a dishonest fashion - so I suggest anyone going to that restaurant to please check your bill. Other than being advantaged with a good location, I do not see any other benefits this restaurants has to offer to its customers. I have now found many better restaurants to go to (like Summit Garden).
My boyfriend and I often go here because it's the only Dim Sum we know that uses carts in Mississauga. We particularly like it as they seem to have a much wider selection (e.g. crab claws, suckling pig) than normal restaurants which serve Dim sum. In terms of quality, I don't think they are best. I have had much better quality of food at other restaurants. Also, even though the selection is vast... What happened to the shui mai? How do you have crab claws and not shui mai?!?! (Edit: Found out you need to order the shui mai... I did and it was not good at all) I noticed the cart ladies seem to be a bit more strange than at other restaurants... Some will FLY past you, others will scream food names right at you. It is kind of fun for me and my boyfriend to laugh about. (I should note we are both Chinese and both have gone to various restaurants for Dim Sum, and we notice the cart ladies here are particularly strange) What I found particularly interesting is how many non-Chinese people eat here. I think it's the only Dim sum place I have seen to have such a variety of people here. I should note that this place gets amazingly busy around noon. My boyfriend and I tend to go around 10:30 or 11 and usually find a seat quickly. If you come at 12 (especially looking for a larger table) you are doomed! haha So to sum it up: -Amazing and sometimes unique selection... except that the shui mai has disappeared! -Decent food quality but not the best. E.g. The shrimp in the ha gow tastes fishy, the dough fritter in the chun fun is soggy sometimes, the spare ribs in the black bean spare ribs w/rice are so boney ahhh! -Strange cart ladies lol. Sometimes rude, sometimes friendly -Get there before 12 if you don't like waiting! It's actually more normal to eat Dim sum earlier in the day anyway :). Also, it seems one reviewer on here stated that the adults and kids are noisy. This is normal for a Chinese restaurant, especially as one as big as Emerald.
I have been going to this restaurant for some time now but I only order the food I know is good because when I stray from certain items I find their food to be bland and salty. I thought the fried rice was good, it was a bit different as it has shredded lettuce in it which some people may not like but I found quite enjoyable. We also had a noodle dish which was also pretty good but aside from that I don’t really like anything else I have tried there. The service is quite inadequate as I found the servers rude and unfriendly. I know the place can get quite crowded but I think paying customers deserve more than having their money practically ripped from our hands. A smile and some polite service would go a long way. I also thought the eels, fish and lobster tank was in desperate need of cleaning. Some of the fish looked sickly and were floating sideways barley moving, it was quite a disgusting site.
Dim sum was awesome - worth a try!
Best selection and quality of Dim Dum ever! The busiest restaurant I have seen - a gold mine. If this huge restuarant can do so much business with Chinese and non Chinese it must be good. Have gone here for over 16 years. Service can be abrupt but I think this is more cultural than anything. When it comes to Dim Sum this is THE PLACE to go. I have tried supper meals - would not recommend - it's TOTALLY different that the DIM SUM experience, both food and service quality.
I love this place for it's hustle-bustle atmosphere, but also for it's fantastic dim sum! The food is seriously delightful! So many flavours, so many textures and so many choices. The weekends at this place are crazy, the parking lot is full, the line-up winds out the door... The service often leave MUCH to be desired, but again I really don't care that much about the service in dim sum place... they are never blatantly rude to us or anything like that, they never ignore us, and you always get what you ask for! How can you go wrong with that? Now as far as the tipping goes, and I am still laughing about that, I know what the few reviewer are talking about - not at this particular restaurant but at Ruby Rouge in Montreal (also a dim sum place) - the server asked for a bigger tip at the end of our meal and I nearly fell over with laughter - he was not joking! Seriously who does that?! I guess this is the norm at dim sum places?!
Only good for dim sum which is 10 - 4 daliy. Best to arrive early on weekends tends to be really busy. Make sure the get an order of the fried scallop they make it better then any other chinese restaurant.
Only good for dim sum!!! Make sure the get an order of the fried scallops they make it better then any other Chinese restaurant. Also some other great choices are how-gaw, shrimp in rice paper, fried taro, and i would suggest to avoid the big spring rolls there not that great and expensive.
We have been here many times before for dinner/dimsum and the food isn't bad. After a $288 bill, I left them $320 which I think is adequate. Out party sat around chatting and noticed the waiter didn't bother to bring us complimentary oranges/fortune cookies as the other table around us had. These people didn't even bother to ask how the meal went or anything like that. They just lacked basic manners and customer service skills. I'll spent my money somewhere else next time.
Food was pretty good. Service was alright, though we had to flag them a few times when we wanted something. We're Chinese - and the service was poor for us too! At the end of the meal, there was a minor dispute as we were slightly overcharged on one item. After waiting 7 minutes for the server to bring it back, we gave him a 8% tip. In front of our guests, he loudly states "that's not even 10%!!". Not wanting to embarass ourselves or our guests, we added a couple more bucks to bring it right to 10%. He just stood there... We added a couple more bucks, and then he put on a fake smile and said "Ah, thank you, thank you.". We were shocked that he had the nerve to ask for a bigger tip, given the service levels. We dine at many Chinese restos, and have never had this happen in the last 5 years!!
I go here often for dim sum, as it's the closest place near me and no one in the party felt like traveling further for dimsum. I'd rather go downtown/uptown than eat here. I wouldn't suggest going here during the holidays as they're very busy and they do skimp out on ingredients!! You would expect at LEAST 2 shrimps in a "ha chur" (shrimp roll), but they put one shrimp in each roll. The list goes on. The service is a hit or miss - I've had fresh dishes, as well as cold stale dishes!! Unimpressive.
Best Dim Sum Place I have ever been to in the last 20 years!!!!!! Drive from Markham for the dim sum. Prices are great and the food is really good!!!! Parking is really bad/tight/small, especially for me in a large SUV; and the washrooms could be cleaner and be fresh painted!!!
$20 including taxes for 1 small, 3 mediums and 2 large plates. Dim sum carts came around at a good speed. This was a weekday lunch, so they are prepared for English-only customers (which we were) and business people in a hurry. Watch out, you'll find that your eyes are bigger than your stomach and you may not finish everything! The only drawback is the parking lot at the front - quite tight for anything larger than a compact car.
We visited this restaurant expecting a bit of a horror show but came away very pleasantly surprised. There were no traces of rudeness and the washrooms were quite clean - none of the issues raised in other reviews. It may have helped that one of my guests spoke Cantonese, but everyone was very friendly to the entire table.
