Absolutely great service they were very attentive and the food was very good.On our next visit to Dundas we will be eating at the Thristy Cactus.
Well, I really can't comment on the food because we never had a chance to order. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm and the place was less than packed. We were seated, given menus, and...yeah...that was about it. We sat there for 15 minutes while the servers (?) waited on other patrons and did everything they could to avoid eye contact with us. We didn't get water for crying out loud. We decided to be fair and wait a few more minutes. One of the servers was "busy" wiping down clean tables. The other finished bringing food to the table nearest us and then walked away to have a drink of soda behind the bar. Really?!? And they have a sign outside that says "we serve families". Not in my lifetime. We got up and walked out...none of the staff even bothered to notice. I have NEVER had such atrocious (lack of) service and will make it a priority to tell everyone I know to steer clear of this miserable place.
Having rediscovered the Thirsty Cactus this past year it has quickly become our favourite restaurant. The pulled pork sandwich is a hands down favourite for my husband and I. We love that the prices are reasonable. Traditionally we go out to eat to celebrate birthdays and we found the Thirsty Cactus to be $40 cheaper for our family than the last chain restaurant we went to. Add in the terrific food and you really can't go wrong. The service has always been spot on. I really have no complaints!
Well it was a crazy day, so my husband and I decided to head over to the 'Cactus'. We were greeted at our table by a bowl of warm nachos and sinful queso sauce over top! My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and I the smokehouse wrap, with "cow patty" (hehe). The pulled pork was juicy and melted in your mouth. It was savory and moist. The fries were not the 'freezer bag' kind, and all golden and crispy. The wrap was huge! I opted for spicy steak, which was tender and full of flavor. This was married with mexican rice, cheese and bacon. I can't remember what sauces were on it, but it was excellent! I had a cup of sour cream to use if needed. The cow patty was a mix of home-cooking and new flavors. Creamy mashed potatoes with spicy Cajun seasoning, grilled so it had a crispy bottom. Topped with caramalized onions and gravy. It was sinful and comforting on a grey and damp evening! You'll love the rustic 'western' decor, and I was happy to see all the tables perfectly neat and clean! The servers smiled naturally (no fake smiles here!) and seemed to be in high spirits. The food was out on our table in a quick and orderly fashion as well. I reccomend this place if you're feeling hungry. You will NOT leave here hungry..that's for sure.
Excellent service and portions were huge! We ordered the chicken wrap and pulled pork sandwich. Both were excellent! Wish we had enough room to try the deep fried cheesecake but we were too full so next time.
I have mixed feelings about this place. Most of the staff there are really nice, but there a few, actually 1 female member of staff that is awful!! She doesnt make eye contact, no smiles, no manners, she may aswell act as if were not there!!! i always have fun when I just go ther sit at the bar and have a drink but to go for a family meal its not reccomended!!! Their fries are almost black sometimes, im not sure of they change their oil very often, I asked for gravy once and i could stick my fork in it and it would stand up straight!!!! And cheesy nachos with no cheese!!!
Great food Great Service, staff seem to bed over backwards for their guests. We kind of make up our own nacho order and they get it bang on every time. I can't say how nice the staff are, just feel so relaxed going there. as for other people saying food isn't healthy.... why are you at a pub?! pubs are for pub food, and The Cactus would be a place I would be proud to own.
Most amazing place to visit and eat at. If your looking for a great place to hang out with friends and eat and talk this is the place for you. I compare Thirsty Cactus to the coffee house on friends and it is my absolute favorite place to go. The food is amazing and sizzling hot and the service is great! The atmosphere is great and friendly. I reccomend it for families, friends and even just a date night.
My wife and I had been long time patrons of the thirsty cactus and have always had pleasant experiences. However, after the ditz who served us today it will be a long time before we go back. The food is usually pretty good and the servers + kitchen has had no problems changing the meal a bit to accommodate our healthy diet. For example, serving us a side of carrots, celery and peppers instead of the usual high fat, though free nachos and cheese. Today however, we were told for the first time that supposedly "the manager" didn't like that being done and the only healthy option was just plain nachos and salsa. Our server blinked several times, and stared blankly when I told her it was the nachos in general, and not just the cheese that we don't want. She curtly replied to our request "No". In addition to this, she proceeded to tell me I had bland taste when I asked for some creams to be removed from my meal. I thought her attitude could use some work. As my meal was a main course, it came with a side salad, coleslaw, or fries (shudder). I asked for my usual baked potato, and to my surprise, I was charged extra for it. This is not service and the restaurant's reputation has been ruined to us. I didn't complain about the extra charge as I have more class than to worry about a dollar. However, that dollar just cost them a weekly $30 in revenue from the two of us. I would recommend the restaurant if you're just in it for some food, and don't care what the fat content of the meal is. However, remember that they are not very courteous! PS The potato was very salted today.
awful service... we waited far too long for our apps and meal and when we complained, the manager became rude and irritable horrible food - cold, stringy, no taste will never go back
This restaurant knows how to keep people coming back. Their friendly personality is great. We were seated right away, given complimentary chips, and drinks in minutes. Our food was timed well - even with having an appetizer. Our server was great at suggesting items on the menu and describing them to us. We really enjoyed our visit.
My son and I stopped for dinner this past weekend after going to the Dundas Cactus Festival. We sat outside on the covered patio. Even though the staff were quite busy with the festival, they were still very friendly and attentive. The nacho's are one of the best I've ever had and my son thoroughly enjoyed his Chimichanga. We'll definetly be coming back :)
The service was awful, the food was awful and the restaurant manager's attitude was appaling! The Thirsty Cactus may look adorable from the outside, but that is where it ends. I will never return to that place ever again nor would I ever reccomend it. We waited an hour for our food and when it finally arrived it was cold and totally unsatisfying. The waitress was clueless and the Manager had no class at all. I have personally worked in a restaurant for several years and have also held several managerial roles and never ever have I come across such a terrible display of customer service or food quality.
Our walk to the restaurant was well worth it! The atmosphere was nice, and we were seated promptly. The server was very nice and made sure we were happy. The catfish was ordered blackened and came with rice and steamed veggies, and it was delicious (although the rice was a little cold), and the chicken pasta was excellent, and a large portion too! Overall, a good experience, and an enjoyable lunch! Will definitely return to the Thirsty Cactus :)
I have never had such a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE IN A RESTAURANT EVER!! We waited for an hour before being served with our meals. The appetizer (riblets) was comparible to dog food, and the service was terrible. When we were finally served with our food, my soup was cold, the shrimp was stringy and the Beef Burrito had one or two pieces of beef in it. When we asked to speak to the manager, she was EXTREMELY RUDE and was not willing to accomodate us at all. I have worked in Customer Service for the past 10 years and I have never seen or treated customers as terrible as the management at the thirsty cactus treated my boyfriend and I. I would never reccomend this restuarant to anyone!
Good bargain and friendly service. House wine was very bad, not sure if it always tastes like this or if it is just not a big seller and had been opened too long. The runny cheese sauce on the nachos is not very good but it was free and the actual nachos are good. Pulled pork sandwich awesome, comes with a nice little salad. 7 layer dip would feed an army for $9. First trip to Dundas downtown. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday and nothing much was open.
My boyfriend and i visit this restaurant all the time (usually once a week). We always receive great service and we love the food. We recommend it to all our friends, and bring them with us whenever we get a chance.
I love this place. The pulled pork here is some of the best i've ever had. The fries are pretty good too. During the day this place is a nice family place, and during the night it's one of Dundas's premier bars. I got here often with friends and I've never once been disappointed.
We go here every Monday after fire training. They give us great service and great wings and the Draught is always cold. Cathy goes out of her way to make us comfortable. We often go in for Lunch or dinner as well, and the fahitas are great. The wraps are huge and good. We are always treated like freinds.
Cute place, good atmosphere, good food. Will definatley return.
