Whisper Espresso
Ah, first love. Maybe your first foray into coffee was a shot of espresso or chocolatey mocha, snuck before school for that bittersweet, heart-fluttering jolt you could brag to your friends about. New Harvest's take is elegant, fruity and not at all brash. So let this seasonal espresso blend whisper sweet nothings to you, with its lighter roast profile – bright when pulled as espresso or brewed as drip. In fact, New Harvest tests their roasts across a full spectrum of brewing methods, to make sure that whether you drip, pour-over or siphon, you'll have an ideal coffee experience. Shhhh. It's all coming back to us now. tip of the tongue Pro tip: There's no such thing as an espresso bean! Espresso refers to coffee made in a particular way. When beans are labelled espresso, it just means that the roaster recommends using those beans to make espresso. Another fun fact: Espresso is stronger than coffee by volume, but a shot of espresso has much less caffeine than a small (8 oz.) cup of coffee

Guatemala Hunapu
Bright and sweet, this is exactly how we want to wake up in the morning! Madcap roasts its coffees to maximize the flavor potential of the green beans, rather than the flavor of the roast. In other words, these beans just might turn you into a dedicated coffee snob. Hunapu, which means "mountains of flowers," is the name of the largest volcano located near Antigua, Guatemala, and it's also the name for some very special coffee being grown in the area. This coffee represents the best of what Antigua has to offer: Rich soil, ideal climate and the finest coffee varieties make for seriously impressive beans. The Hunapu project consists of about 300 growers who bring their coffee to the Beneficio Bella Vista plantation for processing. The lots are kept separate, and Madcap's buyers were able to precisely select the coffees they wanted for their special Hunapu brew. tip of the tongue This elegant, impressive coffee demands attention. Don't gulp it down! Brew this when you have time to sip and savor. It's going to be an awesome day when it starts with something so stunning. This stainless steel reusable filter is 100% made in the USA, almost entirely by hand. Not only will your morning cup taste amazing, we love that we don't have to throw out a paper filter every time we break out the Chemex, and cleanup is easy peasy. Just give it a rinse right after you make the coffee, but if it does sit around, it's rugged enough that you can even put it in the dishwasher (best on the top rack). tip of the tongue A great gift for coffee fanatics, especially when paired with a tin of Brooklyn Roasting Coffee or in our Coffee Tawk Taster. specifications Fits standard 6, 8 and 10 cup Chemex brewers

Chocolate, Coffee + Kumquat Spread
Nutella + us = true love. But now that we've tasted this incredible combination of candied kumquats, dark chocolate and coffee, we're rethinking our commitment. Lemon Bird's products are truly small batch, made from the best (and closest) raw ingredients that L.A.-based maker Amy Deaver can find. This spread is a neighborhood collaboration of sorts. Deaver uses a slow drip method to infuse apple pectin with beans from Ritual Coffee Roasters. Thin slices of kumquat are candied and mixed with the coffee pectin and sugar, then with dark chocolate from Chocovivo (and you know how we feel about Chocovivo). The spread is intensely chocolatey, with just a hint of coffee, punctuated by sweet-tart notes of kumquat. We swoon over every spoonful. tip of the tongue Spread on toasted baguette for breakfast or dessert, spoon onto vanilla or coffee ice cream, or use as an extravagant dip for sliced apples, fresh figs and dried apricots.
Corretto Coffee Liqueur
Maybe you can relate to this after-dinner dilemma. The one where you want a hit of espresso to wake you up just enough to avoid slipping into a food coma, but also something strong and smooth to draw your evening out just a little bit longer? Our solution: Corretto Coffee Liqueur, which tastes like a rich, flavorful cup of coffee with notes of vanilla and a bit of molasses tang. It's sweet, but not overly so, with enough complexity to pair with dessert. (A brownie sundae with Spoonable caramel, perhaps?) The liqueur is made by steeping organic and fair trade coffee beans and whole vanilla bean in neutral spirits, then adding just enough cane sugar to balance out the bitterness. Roundhouse Spirits got their inspiration from cafe corretto, an Italian espresso "corrected" with a shot of liqueur. The beans hail from their favorite cafe, The Unseen Bean, in Boulder, Colorado. tip of the tongue Abide by "The Dude" (you're a Lebowski, we're a Lebowski) and make yourself the best White Russian ever. Combine 1 oz Corretto and 1 oz vodka in a rocks glass. Fill with ice and top off with cream.
Chipotle Kafe Salsa
You know the salsa your friend makes for every party? The one that makes you test the structural integrity of the tortilla chip and can even pull the attention from the guacamole? That's how we felt the first time we tasted Zukali. Each bite of this salsa is spicy, sweet and sour with a hint of smoke from the mix of tart tomatillos, super-ripe tomatoes and smoky, spicy chipotle peppers. It's got a great medium heat and coffee adds even more depth. This is a salsa that makes double dipping really hard to resist. tip of the tongue Hot, but not too hot, it's an exceptional salsa to pair with beef, lamb, black beans or sweet potatoes. Or a spoon.
Costa Rica La Falda, Rio Jorco
Imagine a lush coffee farm on a mountainside overlooking the Pacific. Birds are chirping in your ears, ocean breezes are blowing in your hair. Sigh. One sip of this coffee doesn't quite transport us to an island paradise (we wish!), but it tastes pretty great all the same. Seriously, if you like bright, juicy coffee with hints of tropical flavors, you will love this coffee. Tip of the Tongue We think this coffee is a great choice for cold brew iced coffee (which we drink all year!). When brewed hot, we like to use a pour over method, which emphasizes this coffee's bright, tropical notes

Chocolate-Covered Coffee Beans
A classic chocolate-y treat from Jacques Torres, the king of chocolate-coated everything. Crunchy little coffee beans, roasted to perfection, coated in smooth layers of both milk and dark chocolate. tip of the tongue We find these to be an essential mid-day pick-me-up. With just the right dose of chocolate and caffeine, you'll never turn to scary 5-hour anythings ever again. Just be sure to keep away from the kids, particularly at bedtime.
Florida Tupelo Honey
Tupelo, known as the "Queen of Honeys," is a rare and beautiful honey harvested a spare few weeks per year in North Florida's Apalachicola River Basin. Unlike other honeys, Tupelo will never crystallize – it stays forever elegant, floral and downright regal. After coming up with adorable, eco-friendly, two-teaspoon to-go packets, Honey Pax has now launched a gorgeous glass bottle of this addictive nectar. As if you needed any further convincing of how crazy good this honey is, see for yourself: each bottle has a hive code on the top that shows the origin of your bottle. TIP OF THE TONGUE Drop a bit into your morning coffee. Drizzle onto a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Pair with your favorite cheese. INGREDIENTS Raw Tupelo honey. Comes in a 13 oz, 40% post recycled glass bottle. Do not give honey to infants under 18 months.
616 Blend
If this coffee were a person, it would be your insanely, wonderfully friendly Midwestern neighbor – cheery every morning and eager to tell you a good, long story. And it's named for 616, the area code in Grand Rapids, Michigan. According to Madcap, "Six One Six is enjoyable, trustworthy, and balanced: designed to be a delicious coffee that everyone can savor and trust everyday, much like the city itself." We promise, you'll be dialing for more. tip of the tongue Howdy ho, neighbors! Next weekend, brew an extra-large batch and take some next door to catch up on the local gossip.
Flame-Blackened Coffee Scoop
We're waaaaaay into coffee here at Mouth. We drink it all day. Sometimes at night. And, yes, we're totally into our coffee apparatus, so we were super excited to discover this stunning wooden scoop. Jonathan starts with cherry, a wood that's durable, smooth and strong. The scoop is designed with the hand and purpose in mind, clearly inspired by the American Arts and Crafts movement. Its flame-blackened surface has a sanded edge, which reveals the warm cherry beneath. Beautiful. Most importantly, for the fussy coffee freak, the scoop won't spill when you set it down! This is a fabulous gift for said fussy coffee freak. tip of the tongue Jonathan says, "Love your spoons and they'll love you back!" He suggests not putting it in the dishwasher; instead, you should scrub with soap and water, and from time to time, rub with natural coconut oil. ingredients Cherry. Holds an eighth of a cup. Measures 5 inches.
Macadamia Chocolate Chip Bar
This bar is like the ultimate mashup of trail mix and chocolate chip cookies. Macadamia, cashew, almond and pecan nuts add real crunch here, mixed with the satisfying chew of dried tart cherry and sweet apricot. A dash of flax and chia seeds, plus a sprinkling of sea salt and ground vanilla bean, make this an addictively fun treat. And the chewiest hiking snack ever! Why the name? Abigail Wald was tired of saying no to processed snacks full of ingredients she didn't want her son to have. So, she chose to do it herself, to craft her own satisfying, delicious, good-for-you snack overflowing with healthy whole ingredients, one that she (and we) can say YES to every time. tip of the tongue Try storing one in the fridge for a chilled treat. Our new afternoon snack? One Macadamia Chocolate Chip bar, a big iced coffee and a long stroll under Brooklyn’s sunny sky.
Dark Roast of the Decade
We've always loved a good dark roast coffee, but since we've been spending more time in the world of contemporary coffee, we have to admit that light roasts usually steal the show with their more complex flavors. So we were beyond excited to discover this new offering from New Harvest. They start with naturally processed beans from the Sidamo region of Ethiopia, whose juicy fruit flavors are so bold and rich they can totally stand up to a dark, smoky roast. tip of the tongue We love this coffee with steak and eggs for breakfast, or a slice of dark chocolate cake for dessert (fun fact: Dark roast coffee actually has less caffeine than lighter roasts, so it's a good choice for an after-dinner cuppa).
Stroopwafels
Say it with us: "Stroopwafel!" Fun. Ed McManness and his family first discovered these famous cookies on vacations to Holland, where they learned the best way to enjoy this Dutch treat: perch on top of a cup of coffee or tea, so the steam from the drink heats up the cookie and melts the caramel middle. (If you don't have a hot drink handy, you can also pop it in the microwave for about 10 seconds). Ed decided it was time to bring this scrumptious treat to the New World. As the Dutch say, smakelijk! Thin, chewy cinnamon cookies give way to a sticky caramel center; just like a waffle, its lattice-shaped crevices make it perfect for nibbling.
PH Balance Blend
The PH Balance Blend is all about (yep, you guessed it) balance. Passion House wanted to make a soothing cup perfect for all-day drinking. With flavors of candied grapefruit, raisins, dark chocolate and caramel, this coffee is totally zen but never boring. Namaste. tip of the tongue Passion House divides its offerings into three genres: Ambient, Mainstream and Experimental. This one falls under Ambient. "These simple beauties allow you to be either fully engaged in its subtle complexity or just gulp it down." ingredients Medium roast; whole beans; comes in a 12 oz bag.
Triple Ginger Cookies
The Triple Ginger Cookies are beyond beyond, outrageous, extraordinary, deeeeeelicioius, unreal. Not tooooo sweet. Just right. Molassesy. Why triple? They're made with fresh, ground and crystallized ginger. Lomaxine cookies are seriously THE best cookie (except for all the other cookies we sell, of course). When these gorgeous bags of deliciousness arrived at our office, we sat for a long time, tasting and swooning. They are lovingly and expertly baked by Jesse Lomax Floyd in Brooklyn. Rich, intense, truly exceptional flavor. Not crunchy, but not soft either – the perfect in between. The packaging is beautifully designed, and each bag comes packed with cookies, so they make a great gift. tip of the tongue So great with a cup of Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee. Or any hot cup of tea. Or a glass of milk.
Chia Peanut Butters
Someone said to us today, "chia is the new flax seed and is about to blow up." Yes, we have people saying stuff like that to us all the time. Why? Chia seeds are super duper extra nutritious, higher in Omega-3 fatty acids than flax, high in fiber, high in protein (one ounce contains 4 grams!). They also contain a zillion minerals including phosphorus, manganese, calcium, potassium, copper, iron, niacin, zinc and sodium, all essential. What's also really cool about chia is that when water is added, after 30 minutes they form sort of a gel. This chemical reaction is what takes place in your stomach and slows down the digestive process, which is good for you. Not bad for a crop that was popular in Mexico 3000 years ago but banned in the 16th century by the Spanish conquest due to its association with Aztec customs. Okay, enough about how good it is for you. We know you care about how it tastes. It's thick and creamy but with a little graininess to it. Rich, nutty and delicious. Classic A smooth, delicious peanut butter that gets a slight crunch from tiny chia seeds. Chocolate Also smooth-style, this peanut butter features dark chocolate! Coffee Peanut butter + coffee has always been a favorite of ours, and now they're combined perfectly in one delicious jar. Yum. Wake up! tip of the tongue Tomorrow, make everyone in the family a CB+J sandwich. We like this paired with Anarchy's 3 Berry preserves on grainy whole wheat bread. We also have been known to dip a Z cracker or a bit of lavash directly into the jar. Really delicious on matzah right now.
Caramel DrizzleTM Coffee - K-Cups
Indulge in this velvety-smooth blend, with a hint of caramel, just right any time of day.
Pecan and Vanilla Salt Shortbread Bites
Piles and piles of pipsqueak pecan cookie bites – that's what our dreams are made of. And probably what we'll be made of, if we keep eating them at this rate! We're kind of surprised that vanilla salt isn't a Class A controlled substance, but we're not complaining. The concentrated mix of salty and sweet combined with rich, buttery pecan shortbread is a lethal dose of delicious. These pint-sized pecan-vanilla bites are curiously tasty and will have you hooked before you even know it – but if rock bottom is grasping for crumbs, we're happy to keep coming back for the next fix. While competing on Bravo's "Top Chef," Carla Hall spread her infectious philosophy: cook with love. Now, her motto has found its way to baking cookies. Spreading the love is encouraged, as these adorable treats are bite-sized and made for sharing. Each batch is rolled by hand using the freshest seasonal ingredients, and Carla's able to channel her Southern background along with her classic French training. Now, the only question is whether you'll actually share before devouring the whole lovely package! Tip of the Tongue Simple yet seductive, these are the perfect sidekick to a cozy mug of black or herbal tea (like Chai, coconut, cinnamon or vanilla), or any blend of hot coffee.
Chocolate Chip Blondie
If blondes have more fun, are blondies a more thrilling bite? Debate this all you want, but one thing we know for sure is that this Brown Sugar Chocolate Chip Blondie from socially conscious Greyston Bakery is as sweet as can be. With a buttery, tender bite and caramel-y brown sugar sweetness speckled with tasty dark chocolate chips, it's sort of in a baked-good league of its own. It doesn't hurt that Greyston Bakery has an even sweeter mission: to build stronger communities by creating jobs and encouraging personal development to help families move toward self-sufficiency. Now that's a company statement that makes us feel all warm and gooey inside (hint: try microwaving the blondie for 15 seconds). Tip of the Tongue This blondie's decadent, delicate and dunkable. Dip it in hot, black coffee. Call it breakfast. Live, people, live! EAT DRINK AND BE INDIE!
Maple Sugar
Real maple syrup makes breakfast evangelicals out of us all, but who knew it also we could also get our fix in sugar form? At Madeva Farms in the Hudson River Valley, the Turner family harvests the sap from from 800 acres of century-old sugar and red maples. Much of this sap is made into syrup, but some is reduced and reduced and reduced until it becomes maple sugar. It's sweet, of course, but also has hints of caramel and a balancing note of bitterness that makes us want to swallow it by the spoonful. Tip of the tongue Sprinkle onto oatmeal. Mix with oats and chopped nuts to top a fruit crumble or swap it into your favorite coffee cake recipe.
Raspberry Chocolate Truffle Coffee - K-Cups
A surprising coffee that achieves the taste of a chocolate raspberry truffle melting in your mouth. Sweet tooths just found a coffee right up their alley.
Milk Chocolate Coffee Toffee
Dave added crispy roasted coffee beans to his signature milk chocolate-almond toffee for a jolt that’ll set your teeth a-buzz. Coffee toffee. Not only is it fun to say, it’s fun to eat. And by fun we mean the incredibly exciting, energizing, afternoon slump-defying, make-your-dentist-jealous kind of fun. tip of the tongue Munch on this during your coffee break for an extra wake-up call. Add to vanilla ice cream and enjoy the crunch. Don't forget to floss
Don Estaban Cacao Liqueur
We're huge fans of Cacao Prieto's exceptional chocolate. Dan Preston's dark chocolate bars were among our very first products. We could eat his chocolate all day (and sometimes, we do). So we're thrilled that we can now drink it, too. This chocolate liqueur is made with the same single origin Dominican cacao they use in their bars. It tastes like rich, bright dark chocolate with hints of toffee, vanilla bean and a little black pepper spice. Cacao Prieto starts with rum, then infuses it with whole cocoa beans. Once it takes on the flavor of the chocolate, they add just enough cane sugar to hit that sweet spot. It makes an amazing dessert all on its own, but we also love to sip it alongside nutty or caramel-y desserts. Of course, this makes an ideal gift for the chocolate-obsessed. tip of the tongue Add a generous splash to a cup of coffee for the best mocha ever.
Chocolate Espresso Cookies
We love a good ghost story. We also love a good cookie. Grey Ghost Bakery serves up both! This family-run baking company is named after the legendary ghost of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, who is said to alert residents to impending storms. Made from an old family recipe, these rich, mellow chocolate espresso cookies are sprinkled with crunchy sugar. Boo! tip of the tongue These cry for a glass of milk. Or create an over-the-top ice cream sandwich with coffee, vanilla or hazelnut ice cream.
Decaf Peru
Calling all insomniacs: The one, the only, Decaf! We know it's possible to love coffee, yet hate caffeine, so we're thrilled to carry this sweet, clean, awesome coffee from our friends at Brooklyn Roasting Company. (We promise it won't keep you up – but, just in case, there's always melatonin!) Brooklyn Roasting Company is right around the corner from us in DUMBO, Brooklyn – and worth a trip. They roast an awesome bean and make a truly perfect cup of coffee. They say they're not coffee snobs, just dedicated coffee lovers who only settle for the best. tip of the tongue This coffee is decaffeinated using a water process, so no nasty chemicals needed (we heart technology!).

Sip a taste of victory. ingredients Light-medium roast; Pacamara variety; washed; grown at 1,450-1,700 meters above sea level. Whole bean; comes in a 12 oz bag.
Oat Bark Cookies with Cacao Nibs
So, we know what you're thinking – oat bark? But don't let the name or plain appearance fool you. These thin cookies pack in a ton of delicious brown sugar flavor and a light butteriness, enlivened by the crunch of finely ground oats and dainty cacao nibs. We should have known those classy bakers at Lark Fine Foods wouldn't let us down! Tip of the Tongue Keep a stash of these "cookies for grown-ups" at your desk for the mid-afternoon blahs. Pair with a shot of espresso, or a strong cup of coffee or tea, and you'll keep your sweet tooth at bay without the consequential sugar crash.
Salted Caramel Apple Popped Tar
This little apple tart from the Big Apple has us saying bye-bye to store-bought American pies. Yes, it's the real deal: tender bits of apple hanging out with sweet caramel and warm cinnamon, baked into the flakiest, butteriest, perfectly salted crust and topped off with caramel icing. When Meghan Ritchie introduced these retro treats at Brooklyn food market Smorgasburg, they quickly became a hot ticket. They've got such a following they're even listed as one of the Village Voice's top 100 dishes. One bite, and you'll forget Pop Tarts ever existed. INSTRUCTIONS: We ship these treats frozen and mostly they defrost on the way. Store at room temperature and when you're ready to enjoy, just reheat them in an oven or toaster oven at 250 degrees for five minutes. The pastries stay fresh for over a week, but those west of the Mississippi should eat these within a couple of days of receiving them for the freshest tasting pastries. If you make it more than 24 hours, you deserve some kind of prize. tip of the tongue You know what to do – serve this all-American apple beauty à la mode (we vote straight-up vanilla ice cream). Or grab one as an easy to-go breakfast with your thermos of coffee or tea

Savory Rosemary Granola
This totally unusual (in a good way) granola is perfumed with woodsy rosemary and a touch of spicy black pepper. Sweetened with brown sugar and agave, it's still a treat, but a wholesome one, filled out with unsweetened coconut chips, cashew nuts, currants and chia seeds. Blackbird Food Co. granola comes packed in easy-to-close coffee bags with appealing labels, hand-drawn by owner and chief bird-in-charge Pamela Fabrega. tip of the tongue Use this savory granola in unexpected ways. Speculoos Spice Cookies
These simple cookies are practically Belgium's national cookie, and one bite tells you why: they're thin, crunchy and simply packed with the festive flavors of dark brown sugar and a precise mixture of nine spices including cinnamon, cloves, pepper and cardamom. These were made for coffee, tea and wintertime. People are so crazy for the flavor, they've found a way to turn it into a spread so you can have it on everything – yep, these are the cookies that turn into "Cookie Butter" or Biscoff Speculoos spread. Little Belgians makes traditional speculoos of the sort you'd find in Belgium, so they come in cute shapes like medieval houses, pigeons, umbrellas and bike riders. These tasty, jolly cookies have us humming carols and dreaming of snow days...it's never too early! Start hoarding these for stocking stuffers. tip of the tongue Make your own version of the cookie spread popularized by Biscoff! Grind up the cookies in a food processor and drizzle in vegetable or coconut oil by the tablespoon until it forms a spreadable paste. EAT DRINK AND BE INDIE!
Chocolate-Covered Cranberries
Twist open and breathe in dark chocolate, tart orange-y sweetness.... Some chocolate-covered fruits are waxy, but these delicious cranberries are surprisingly soft and chewy. The gorgeous jar makes them especially gift worthy. It's small and cute enough to stand as a coffee table snack, but also makes a memorable host gift. tip of the tongue Buy half a dozen and you'll be set for all those last-minute gift needs – and if you're lucky, you might still have one left for yourself! EAT DRINK AND BE INDIE!
Mason Jar Cocktail Shaker
Yes, we got in on the Mason jar trend early, too. What's not to love about this iconic American jar? It's beautiful, sturdy and oh-so-versatile. We use 'em for water, to bring our lunch to work (perfect for soup!), vases, pen holders – what can't they do? The folks at W&P Designs felt the same way when they were re-imagining the cocktail shaker. Now, making great drinks has never been easier – just build your cocktail (or favorite iced coffee!) in the jar, screw on the lid, add the cap, shake and pour through the built-in strainer. Is it 5 o'clock yet? tip of the tongue Bartender's tip: The secret to a great shaken drink is to use lots of ice and shake for longer than you think you should. White Chocolate and Coffee Bar
Creamy, rich white chocolate calms the bittersweet crunch of cacao and coffee nibs. Of course it's named after the classic tragedy, Othello: Sweet in the beginning, bitter by the end, and rave reviews from start to finish. And we can already see just how this one ends: death by chocolate. Well, at least it was sweet while it lasted. Standing ovation for this one. Normally we're not in favor of judging a book by its cover – but luckily, these magnificent bars taste as good as they look. Each comes enclosed in a sturdy paper envelope sealed with a wax fleur de lys. These edible love letters are made all the more poetic by their evocative titles. Tip of the Tongue Not sure whether you're craving coffee, chocolate, or candy? This bar brings the simple sweetness of white chocolate, the richness of pure cacao and the flavorful bitterness of coffee into a perfect balance. Standing ovation!
Chocolate-Covered Espresso Shortbread
Butter. Chocolate. Espresso. (Okay, they had us at butter.) Butter happens to be the secret here, since it happens to excel at absorbing flavor. So the coarsely ground coffee beans mixed right into the buttery dough pack an extra punch. Light and flakey, with just a little bit of crunch, these are dipped in rich, high-quality dark chocolate. Afternoon snacks don't get better than this. tip of the tongue Pair with a glass of ice-cold milk. Nibble, dunk, repeat.
Sumatra Permata Gayo
Our daydream vacation: Wandering through humid forests in the midst of fluttering wings, wading through shallow rice paddies in Wellies, petting livestock and picking coffee cherries on Sumatra. The Indonesian island's temperamental climate and a complex, funky, farmland vibe are unmistakable in this distinct Permata Gayo from Brooklyn Roasting Company. The pulped natural process used on these beans enhances their body and an earthy, chocolatey character that makes Sumatran coffee so popular. tip of the tongue Most coffee farmers visit a coffee tree just a few times each season because the cherries ripen all at once. But Sumatra's humid, unpredictable climate sometimes requires that farmers pick a selection of ripe cherries from each tree, every week, for eight months!

Dulce De Leche Alfajores
When these gorgeous, buttery, gooey sandwich cookies came across our tasting table, there was no debate: they were a must-carry. Made in the style of traditional Argentine alfajores , they are handmade in Queens by Angie herself, and are as good as (dare we say better than?) the best Argentina has to offer. Just-cakey-enough, rich butter cookies plus a slather of just-sweet-enough caramel equals one killer treat. tip of the tongue We love these sweet, crumbly cookies alongside a cup of coffee or tea. EAT DRINK AND BE INDIE!
The Bridesmaid
How to best thank your best babes? The ones who really seemed to listen to the play-by-play of your first date, who ogled with just the right amount of enthusiasm at your ring, who agreed to wear the dress you think they'll wear again (they won't). Thank them with small-batch deliciousness. These jaw-dropping cookies, caramel, pecan brittle, cocktail syrup, and artisanal candies will make your bridesmaids jump higher than they will for the bouquet. We promise it will be something equally delicious!
Birdie Brittle
Willamette Valley Confectionery is the first to admit that, despite its name, this gloriously crunchy brittle isn't "for the birds." Head candymaker Ken Hoyt just borrowed some culinary inspiration from our feathered friends, blending millet, sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seed into golden-brown caramelized sugar. The toasty seeds balance an otherwise sweet classic, and we love the texture. Each glossy bit is the perfect snacking size and would look stunning in a little glass bowl on your coffee table. tip of the tongue Keep a bag or two of Birdie Brittle at your desk for salty-sweet emergency cravings. It's also a nighttime treat you can feel a little better about. But, please – don't feed the birds.
Maple Syrup
You might think that all maple syrup is the same, but it isn't. We know because this syrup is made by a friend of ours on his family's 7th generation upstate farm. It's truly exceptional (and we're not just saying that because he's our friend!). Rich in calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and manganese, this syrup tastes like liquid gold. Mouth is one of the few places where you can find it. Tip of the Tongue Maple Syrup has more nutrients than sugar and can be used as a slightly healthier alternative (use approximately a 1:1 ratio). We love it in everything from salad dressing to muffins. And try it in your coffee for a new way to enjoy your cup of joe.
Gewürztraminer Grappa
Grappa gets a bad rap in the US thanks to the really rough ones served in too many Italian restaurants. But when we tasted Ransom's, we were blown away. Made from Gewürztraminer grape seeds, skins, pulp and stems (everything that's left over after the wine has been made), this crystal-clear spirit is smooth and fragrant with some of the distinctive tropical and spice notes that make Gewürztraminer wine so delicious. And there's no residual sugar, which makes this a great bracing spirit to sip after a big dinner. tip of the tongue Try splashing a little Grappa into your after-dinner coffee for a great twist on an old tradition. did you know? When liquor is distilled, the alcohol comes out of the still in phases, which are traditionally referred to as the heads, the hearts and the tails. Distillers typically keep the hearts to age or bottle, and rework or discard the heads and the tails. Ransom only keeps a fraction of the distilling run, "the heart of the hearts," to make this brandy, and you can really taste the difference.
La Avila Double Soak El Salvador
These special beans are citrusy, bright and sweet. Coffees from El Salvador are typically sweet and mild, but uneventful. So it's pretty exciting to taste one that has so much uncharacteristic, but delicious, acidity as well as a richer depth of flavor. PT's has been carrying this coffee since 2012, when they discovered it. When the farm manager, Luisa de Ortiz, first tasted it, she was blown away. So was PT's. So were we! Seriously, this is a very impressive cup of coffee. did you know? The "double soak" refers to part of the processing where the coffee is typically soaked in tanks of water for up to 24 hours before finally being air-dried on raised beds. This particular coffee is then placed in another tank and soaked for an additional 12 to 24 hours, so it benefits from even more time to develop extra flavor. tip of the tongue This coffee goes particularly well with sweet pastries or pancake breakfasts
Marionberry Espresso Jam
Oregon marionberries have been called 'the Cadillac of blackberries' and we totally agree! No wonder this jam won a 2014 Good Food Award. The natural sweetness of the berries is kicked up a notch by the subtle coffee earthiness from espresso. Never has a piece of toast required so little to turn it into something extraordinary. tip of the tongue Bye bye boring breakfast! Spread on your fave bread or spoon into oatmeal to transform the most important meal of the day into the most tasty one as well.
Honduras Los Portillos
We Mouth-ers are a bunch of free spirits, and the indie products we sell follow their own beat. So we can appreciate the underdogs – the surprisingly good deviations from the norm – like these beans from Honduras. Honduras isn't as famous as its neighbors for high-end coffee, but its top-quality beans totally hold their own. Take a moment to linger over this cup: It's refreshing, complex, with a citrusy aroma and notes of lime, tangerine and raspberry. This is a great coffee for people who like drinking fruity red wine, barefoot. tip of the tongue New Harvest discovered Adolfo Portillo's coffee at the 2010 Cup of Excellence, where he placed 7th. With the winnings from that auction, Adolfo expanded his farm and built a small wet mill on his property to have complete control in processing his coffee.
Organic Ethiopia Amaro Gayo Natural
A classic, natural-processed Ethiopian, this coffee has rich, syrupy body with flavors of juicy blueberry and black currants. So blueberry-licious, in fact, that it's almost hard to believe it's not flavored coffee. We're not going to tell you how to take your cup, but even coffee newbies are often struck by the distinctive flavors of this type of coffee, so take a sip before adding milk or sugar. Your tongue will thank you. tip of the tongue Amaro Gayo comes from Ethiopia’s only female exporter, Asnaketch Thomas, who's native to the Amaro region, situated within the larger Sidamo region of Ethiopia.
Chocolate Coffee Granola
As a New Yorker, Alex Crosier totally understands the demands of the daily grind. So one day, while dreaming up a new granola flavor in the Lab in South Slope, Brooklyn, she had a breakfast breakthrough: why not add ground coffee and little bits of chocolate to granola? This is truly a breakfast that keeps us going (and keeps us very happy!). tip of the tongue No need to reserve it just for breakfast. Skip the multiple trips to the coffee shop and keep a bag of Activation Energy by your side for extra-long days. For late-night TV-watching bliss, sprinkle this granola over a bowl of vanilla ice cream.
Good Food Award Winning Spirits
We're big fans of the Good Food Awards. The products that win not only taste great, but they also meet super high standards: Makers who seek out local, organic ingredients. Makers who invest in employees and their communities. Makers who care about process. But it's not enough just to do good! Winning foods and drinks are selected through a blind taste test, judged by a panel of experts in every category: Beer, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, coffee, confections, oils, pickles, preserves and(yes!)spirits. We're thrilled that so many of our Mouth spirits makers are on this year's list of winners! (Congrats!) One amazing vodka distilled from 100% rye, a superlative gin that harmonizes botanics with ubiquitous juniper, and a rich, spicy organic whiskey also made from 100% rye. Get yourself in Good Spirits! Try each for yourself, assembled here in one winning bag. An awesome gift for any lover of award-winning bottles, and the best sampling of spirits to boost your home bar cart. In this taster Organic Vodka made by Square One Organic Spirits Botanica Gin made by Falcon Spirits Roundstone Rye made by Catoctin Creek Distilling All of this plus a few more goodies in our signature cotton canvas tote bag. Note: Spirits and food items must ship separately (it's the law!) so you'll get two shipping confirmation emails and two tracking numbers.
Also great for sharing with friends. ingredients Light roast; Bourbon, Caturra and Catuai varieties; washed; grown at 1500 to 1900 meters above sea level. Whole beans; comes in a 12 oz bag.
French Roast Coffee - K-Cups
A dark roasted coffee, inspired by the European tradition and just like our founder enjoyed it. This timeless blend can be distinguished by its intense and refined aroma, its toasted notes and cocoa flavours.
Coffee and Vanilla Stone-Ground Chocolate
You know that blast of comfort you get from walking into your favorite community coffee shop? It's warm and cozy, you recognize some friendly faces and, if you're lucky, there's free wifi. But you wouldn't come back again and again if it weren't for that consistently perfect coffee. We can't all master latte art, but we believe that anyone can make an awesome cup at home – outstanding beans are an excellent start. This signature blend from Deeper Roots is mild and nutty, with a subtle acidity, a syrupy body and lots of chocolate notes. If this is what community tastes like, we want in. tip of the tongue Blending coffee allows roasters to make use of beans that might not be perfectly balanced on their own. By combining many kinds of beans, roasters can make a blend greater than the sum of its parts. That's one reason blends typically cost less than single origin coffees!
Ethiopia Yirge Cheffe
This Ethiopian Yirge Cheffe is bright and clean, with flavors of lemon rind and cocoa powder. It's a textbook washed Ethiopian, for when your Mouth just wants what it wants. Brooklyn Roasting Company is right around the corner from us in DUMBO, Brooklyn – and worth the trip. They roast an awesome bean and make a truly perfect cup of coffee. They say they're not coffee snobs, just dedicated coffee lovers who only settle for the best. tip of the tongue Brooklyn Roasting packages their coffee in steel cans, which are far easier to recycle than paper since they can be separated out of other materials using industrial magnets. Or you can just keep the cool-looking cans and reuse them yourself! (Planter, cookie jar, piggy bank, dry grain storage, etc.)
Panama Carmen Reserve Coffee
How high can we go? We're getting light-headed from our excitement over this tasty, tasty coffee! And that was before we found out it's a finalist for a 2015 Good Food award! Wahoo! In all seriousness, this carefully selected lot of Panama coffee was grown at 1,750 meters above sea level (that's more than 5,700 feet!). Higher altitude coffees are associated with more complex, refined flavors, and high-altitude Panama coffees are particularly prized. This stellar example from Kuma Coffee is super bright with delicate floral flavors. tip of the tongue We like this coffee best brewed in a Chemex or a pourover cone
Salty Sweet Granola
This salty, sweet, chewy and crunchy granola is totally snack-able. Mix-ins include coconut, dried sour cherries, pumpkin seeds and pistachios (yum!) but it's the extra hit of salt (from Portland's famous fancy food shop The Meadow) that makes this sweet granola so irresistible. Blackbird Food Co. Granola comes packed in easy-to-close coffee bags with appealing labels drawn by owner and chief bird-in-charge Pamela Fabrega. tip of the tongue Stick this in your bag or your desk drawer and you'll be prepared for almost any craving.
Big Caramels
A row of huge, majestic caramels comes in a simple, lovely brown rectangular box. Chewy, dense caramels. We discovered them at their premiere in San Francisco's recent Fancy Foods Show and they were too good not to carry right away. Made in the heart of creative, foodie Denver by Ellen Daehnick, they are packed with flavor as bold as they are big. The spices come from Denver's Savory Spice Shop. The butter and cream are both organic. The boxes are 100% recyclable. The script retro logo is hand-stamped with a locally-made rubber stamp. Yes, we love them. In the box there are 9 individually-wrapped treats, 3 of each flavor: cardamom, classic sea salt and coffee. Did we mention they're big? Specifically, about 1.5 x 1.5 x .5 inches. BIG. They are a very special, special treat. tip of the tongue They are big enough to cut with a knife and share with your fellow caramel lovers. Or just hoard the whole thing yourself.
Salt Water Taffy
Vanilla Marisa Wu creates a taffy that tastes nothing like the shore-bought souvenir. Whole vanilla bean is scraped into every batch as it’s pulled by hand. Soft and creamy with a distinct salty crystal crunch and finished with fresh vanilla notes, this first flavor of Salty Road's will remind you of a delicious milkshake. And we LOVE the stripy retro packaging. Sea Salt Caramel Sea Salt Caramel + Salt Water Taffy = mind-blowing deliciousness. Salty, sweet, bitter and chewy with notes of dark coffee and burnt sugar, this taffy is sophisticated enough to serve after dinner (maybe with a nice glass of bourbon), but we'll happily eat it all day long, all year round. Salty Peanut This salty peanut taffy is the ultimate balance of salt and sweet. Infused with local honey from New York's Union Square Market, mixed with creamy peanut butter, a hint of vanilla and lots of coarse-ground sea salt, this is pure peanut heaven and the perfect snack – a little sweet, a little salty and (yes) some protein to keep you going. Salted Caramel Apple Spiced apple with creamy caramel and flaky sea salt come together in this delicious taffy. Inspired by a pie from Marisa's friends at Four & Twenty Blackbirds Pie Shop, whose secret is a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, fresh black pepper, and a splash of angostura bitters for the perfect blend of spice. Marisa's secret is Woods Cider Mill Cider Jelly made in Vermont. She's really taking the classic fall treat to new heights. EAT DRINK AND BE INDIE!
Iris Espresso
Iris espresso is a sweet, spicy, extremely well-balanced blend of three distinctive beans – Peru, Sumatra, and Ethiopian Sidamo – roasted together in small batches. This coffee is soft and creamy, with notes of maple sugar, plum, cocoa and spice. No need to reserve this only for espresso – it's a great blend for drip or an aeropress. Brooklyn Roasting Company is right around the corner from us in DUMBO, Brooklyn – and worth the trip. They roast an awesome bean and make a truly perfect cup of coffee. They say they're not coffee snobs, just dedicated coffee lovers who only settle for the best. tip of the tongue Pro Tip: There's no such thing as an espresso bean. Espresso refers to coffee made in a particular way. When beans are labeled espresso, it just means that the roaster recommends using those beans to make espresso. Another fun fact: Espresso is stronger than coffee by volume, but a shot of espresso has much less caffeine than a small (8 oz.) cup of coffee.
Red Bear Espresso
Espresso beans are like bears (please, bear with us). Strong, assertive, maybe even a little intimidating at first, but totally soft and sweet behind the roar. Kuma's Red Bear Espresso is blended to be caramel sweet and cocoa smooth with just enough fruit in the finish to remind you that this is coffee with attitude. Roastmaster Mark Barany recommends it for straight espresso or combined with milk, but it's also just fine to brew these beans, any way you like, to make your coffee. Just wrap your paws around a hot mug and sip away. tip of the tongue Did you know there's no such thing as an espresso bean? Espresso has to do with the way coffee is made. When beans are labeled espresso, it just means that the roaster recommends using those beans to make espresso. Another fun fact? Espresso is stronger than coffee by volume, but a shot of espresso has much less caffeine than a small (8 oz.) cup of coffee.
Little Caramels
Based in Denver, Colorado, maker Ellen Daehnick uses local, organic butter and cream as well as 100% natural cane sugar to make these rich, just-chewy-enough caramels. Petite, individually-wrapped cubes are extra cute, but we're not going to lie – it's hard to eat just one. Luckily, you get a nice-sized bag of 35-40 little sweets. Classic Salty Salted caramels seem to be everywhere, but no one makes a better one than Helliemae. Coffee We like our coffee black (at least when it's from Brooklyn Roasting), but we're crazy for these butter+cream+sugar candies doctored up with a little fine espresso. EAT DRINK AND BE INDIE!
Brunch in a Bag
New Yorkers love brunch. We love going out for brunch, we love having people over for brunch. And, let's be honest here, mostly we love being invited for brunch. Roll out of bed and out the door and someone feeds you something delicious. We created this taster in honor of all the boroughs' best brunches. You can send this to someone who needs a Sunday morning break (including yourself). You can bring this as a hostess gift, if you're lucky enough to be invited out. Coffeelicious Taster
We're not really morning people. As we like to say, sleep is a symptom of caffeine deprivation. We're addicted to the smell of grinding beans and the way that first cup of steaming, strong coffee tastes going down. And the second. This is a great gift for the coffee fan who can't get enough of that flavor from morning until night! Amazing, locally roasted coffee beans from Brooklyn Roasting Company. And some high-octane goodies, like coffee ground right into granola and chocolate cookies. Tawk amongst yourselves. Chicago House Blend
We love Chicago! The blues, the lakefront gusts, the...Oprah. And what better way to brave the windy streets than with this Chicago House Blend coffee. (You get a cup. You get a cup! Everybody's getting a cup!) Passion House's house blend is also named for their love of house music, so you know this coffee is funky-fresh, well-balanced, with a nice body and citrus flavors that round out at the end. We promise it'll make you move! And we have to admit – we love the vibrant modern bag as much as we love the coffee. tip of the tongue Passion House divides its offerings into three genres: Ambient, Mainstream and Experimental. This blend we'd call Mainstream. As the roasters say, "You don’t need to be embarrassed because you love them, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the balance."
Sulawesi Tana Toraja
This spicy, sweet coffee tastes like fall in a cup: Deeper Roots calls out its apple, molasses and cinnamon flavors. This coffee was fully washed during processing, which is unusual for Indonesian coffees, and makes for cleaner, lighter flavors with many fewer defects. Tana Toraja is a small region located on the island of Sulawesi. It's also the second most popular place to travel in Indonesia after Bali. We wish we could hop on a plane right now, but until we can, we'll be sipping this coffee. tip of the tongue This coffee is a perfect pairing for ginger and molasses cookies including Lomaxine's Triple Ginger , Bunches & Bunches Gingersnaps and Gray Ghost's Molasses Spice cookies .

Dark Chocolate Covered Nut Clusters
This very good mix of crunchy, chocolate-covered almonds and pumpkin seeds is one of the tastiest cacao-drenched snacks to come across our tasting table in a while. With just enough brown sugar and sea salt to satisfy our sweet-savory cravings, we all kept going back for just one more handful. It started out as a gluten-gree variation on chocolate-studded granola, but by the time Valerie Gordon of Valerie Confections was done, it had firmly crossed over from sort-of-cereal to incredible snack. She teamed up with the super-cool folks at Commune Design studio to produce this beautiful bag, as well as their Giant Fruit and Nut Dark Milk Chocolate Bar . tip of the tongue Pack a bag for a good (nay, great!) movie-watching munch at the theater. Add a few decadent clusters to your afternoon caffeine routine – the balance between iced coffee and bittersweet chocolate is a favorite around Mouth HQ!

Stumptown Coffee Chocolate Bar
This is one for the coffee lovers: Freshly roasted, seasonal beans are put under the stone with this 73% dark chocolate which has a buttery texture and crisp notes of fruit and tobacco. Truly delicious and a bit...caffeinated. These bars of chocolate are carefully, lovingly created by the brothers Mast (Rick and Michael) in their Williamsburg warehouse. The exceptional flavor and texture comes from small-batch production which allows them to taste as they go along, making sure each bar is created with perfection. The dark red paper with black motorcycle silhouettes (awesome) is designed in-house, and the beautiful packaging in itself makes this bar the perfect gift – but the chocolate is so good you'll want to order some for yourself. Tip of the Tongue We're having trouble thinking of a more perfect afternoon (or anytime) pick-me-up. Chocolate and coffee in one convenient bar? Yes, please! (Stash at your desk for best results).

New York Honey Rye Whiskey
The honey-gatherers at Catskill Provisions have teamed up with Finger Lakes Distilling to create a honeyed rye whiskey. When two of our makers collaborate to create something delicious, we're doubly excited to see what they come up with! This is a great bottle for those just getting into darker rye whiskeys. The rye is a special recipe bottled only for Catskill Provisions, and it's big and spicy, which makes it the perfect backdrop for raw late-summer honey harvested from New York hives. The combination is just a little sweet with floral notes. And it picks up the perfect amount of vanilla from aging in casks. tip of the tongue It's fantastic sipped straight, but Honey Whiskey is also the perfect spirit to add to any cocktail pairing whiskey with sugar. Just leave out the sugar and let this whiskey shine in your next Old Fashioned. Or add hot water and a cinnamon stick to 2 oz of whiskey in a coffee mug for an amazing Hot Today

Montana Bourbon Whiskey
Roughstock's distillers proudly make "western-style" whiskeys, rich in flavor and unafraid of a little heat. And it's actually the first distillery to legally produce whiskey in Montana in over 100 years! This is potent stuff that starts out hot with a touch of tobacco and leather, then gets balanced out by mild caramel and vanilla notes. Head distiller and cofounder Bryan Schultz distills and ages four separate bourbons for a minimum of two years, then blends them together to achieve his ideal spirit. tip of the tongue It's obvious this bourbon was made to be sipped beside a campfire on the trail after a long day of riding the range, but it's also perfect for mixing 50/50 with espresso for a coffee cocktail even a cowboy would love. Crunchy Chocolate Coffee Bean Bar
Ah, cacao and coffee: brothers from another mother. Dark chocolate, made of wild Criollo cacao from the Bolivian Amazon, blends with fragrant Ethiopian coffee nibs. The bar consists of nothing more than these sweet brethren, and a bit of sugar – and the resulting confection is nothing short of the stuff of myth. This legend-worthy bar is named after Romulus and Remus, the twin brothers of ancient Rome's origin myth. Normally we're not in favor of judging a book by its cover – but luckily, these magnificent bars taste as good as they look. Each comes enclosed in a sturdy paper envelope sealed with a wax fleur de lys, and these edible love letters are made all the more poetic by their evocative titles. Tip of the Tongue You must know someone who adores both chocolate and ancient Roman mythology – this is the bar for them!
Community Blend
Montana Bourbon Whiskey
Roughstock's distillers proudly make "western-style" whiskeys, rich in flavor and unafraid of a little heat. And it's actually the first distillery to legally produce whiskey in Montana in over 100 years! Yee-ha!
Coffee and Vanilla Stone-Ground Chocolate
We're crazy for this bar and simply can't stop breaking more pieces off as the day goes on. Real espresso coffee beans and whole vanilla bean pods are ground together with cacao nibs and unrefined cane sugar, creating a dangerous treat for chocolate and coffee lovers (who tend to run in the same circle, we hear). ChocoVivo aims to minimize the distance between cacao plant and eater. They use pesticide-free beans that are sourced from a single plantation in Tebasco, Mexico, then fermented for two or three days, sun-dried, lightly roasted and stone-ground with no additional cocoa butter or additives. The bars are cooled in sheet pans and cut by hand, so you'll find several slabs in each package, with no two exactly alike. Tip of the Tongue Switch things up a bit by melting this bar over blue cheese on a slice of French bread for a trés chic treat. Complete the Parisian picture with a big glass of bold red wine.
Sundae Best

Or add hot water and a cinnamon stick to 2 oz of whiskey in a coffee mug for an amazing Hot Toddy.
This stellar example from Kuma Coffee is super bright with delicate floral flavors. tip of the tongue We like this coffee best brewed in a Chemex or a pourover cone.
Honduras Las Capucas
Coava is dedicated to tracking down the best green coffee the world has to offer ("coava" actually means "green beans"). They give all the credit to what actually goes into each cup, but we know the roasters are just as much to blame for our habit. (It's becoming obsessive.) This crowd-pleasing cup has tons of earthy chocolate flavor balanced by a bright, fruity acidity. The Capucas Cooperative has put a ton of effort into modernizing their mill to ensure their coffee tastes clean and consistent from lot to lot. We are consistently impressed with every cup we brew. tip of the tongue Coava recommends brewing this coffee in a press pot or a drip coffee maker.
Hazelnut Sea Salt Dark Chocolate Bar
This bar is a triple-threat of Mouth maker collaboration! Alma borrowed 70% dark chocolate from Woodblock, another Portland-based chocolatier, and blended it into the creamiest praline. The organic dark chocolate shell gets a bright sprinkling of sea salt from none other than Oregon's Jacobsen Salt Co. We love it when the kids play together well! tip of the tongue We fully endorse keeping a bar (okay, maybe two) at your desk to pair with your afternoon coffee. This is also a really stunning gift for your favorite chocoholic.
Guatemala Finca de Dios
Coffee, they say, is the stuff of the gods. No, really – this one's named after its farm, "Farm of God," and it'll leave you feeling high and mighty. This year's selection is particularly special and gift-worthy because Madcap's coffee buyers sampled nearly 70 different harvests from the farm to learn about the beans' terroir – how soil, weather and other growing conditions would affect the overall taste. Madcap picked just a few harvests for this single-origin coffee, a vibrant and nuanced cup with notes of bright citrus and a chocolatey body. Truly divine. tip of the tongue Madcap buys these beans from one of Latin America's few female coffee producers, Ellen Prentice. A botanist, she nurtures the farm while carefully overseeing each harvest to ensure only the ripest cherries are picked. ingredients Light-medium roast; Catuai and Bourbon varieties; washed and sun-dried; grown at 1,750 meters above sea level. Whole beans; comes in a 12 oz bag.
Gluten-Free Stroopwafels
Say it with us: "Stroopwafel!" Fun. Ed McManness and his family first discovered these famous cookies on vacations to Holland. Ed decided it was time to bring this scrumptious treat to the New World. And after they'd perfected the original recipe, they decided that their gluten-free friends shouldn't be left in the cold, stroop-less. We've been searching far and wide for a gluten-free stroop (really, this is how we spend our days). They might even be better than the original —gluten-free gateway cookies? tip of the tongue The best way to enjoy this Dutch treat is to perch it on top of a cup of coffee or tea, so the steam from the drink heats up the cookie and melts the caramel middle. (If you don't have a hot drink handy, you can also pop it in the microwave for about 10 seconds).
Chocolate-Covered Stroopwafels
Say it with us: "Stroopwafel!" Fun. Ed McManness and his family first discovered these famous cookies on vacations to Holland. Ed decided it was time to bring this scrumptious treat to the New World. Once they'd perfected the classic cookie, they decided to try dipping it in chocolate. As the Dutch say, smakelijk! tip of the tongue These Dutch treats are best enjoyed warm. Perch one on top of a cup of coffee or tea, so the steam from the drink heats up the cookie and melts the caramel middle. (If you don't have a hot drink handy, you can also pop it in the microwave for about 10 seconds). With the chocolate-covered cookies, this gets a little messy, but we think that's just part of the (delicious) fun. Plus, we love the bonus chocolate ring it leaves on our coffee mugs
Mokaccino Chocolate Bar
We're all about teamwork at Mouth. The outstanding chocolate-makers at San Francisco's Tcho got together with acclaimed San Francisco coffee roasters at Blue Bottle for this high octane collaboration bar, made with organic chocolate and organic coffee beans. Dark Milk Chocolate + Dark Roasted Coffee = Our kind of team. tip of the tongue This bar tastes like chocolate-covered espresso beans, only super smooth and creamy. Yes, please!
Coffee Dry Rub
Joe and Kim of Williamsburg's Fette Sau restaurant know BBQ. They've crafted a cult following for their exclusively dry-rubbed meats, smoked with a blend of New York woods and accompanied by classic sides. The rub is so good that customers requested jars of it to get their fix at home. Yes, it's that addictive. We're enamored with the perfect ratio of sugar, salt, ground coffee and secret spices that make this blend a spicy-sweet masterpiece. Aye, there's the rub. tip of the tongue To meat or not to meat, that is the question. While it's obviously well-suited for crusting thick steaks, infusing skin-on chicken thighs or adding depth to your standby pulled pork, the rub also makes a really tasty seasoning. Coat cubes of pressed tofu before pan-frying, then drizzle with Elvio's Chimichurri for a flavor-packed weeknight meal.
Mocha Java Blend
Ah, Mocha Java, the classic that's been around as long as people have been buying coffee. According to legend, it was first blended on the docks of the port of Mocha in Yemen with coffee from the island of Java. Traditionally, it's a mix of full-bodied, milder Indonesian coffee with more acidic, fruity and floral Ethiopion or Yemeni coffee. OZO's fresh take is full-bodied with a wine-like sweetness and a lingering finish. Get a taste of history, people! tip of the tongue Hack a mocha with this Mocha-Java by stirring in a heaping spoonful of Sucre's Extra Dark Drinking Chocolate. This is also an awesome thermos-filler, perfect for a strenuous hike up a mountain or an equally strenuous morning commute.
This particular coffee is then placed in another tank and soaked for an additional 12 to 24 hours, so it benefits from even more time to develop extra flavor. tip of the tongue This coffee goes particularly well with sweet pastries or pancake breakfasts.
Brazil Samambaia Peaberry
This is your classic morning cup, only better. Think mild, sweet and nutty, with a surprising depth of flavor. So what's a peaberry? Coffee usually grows as a double seed, with two beans in the center of each coffee cherry. About 5% of the time, only one small seed forms – the peaberry. In high-quality coffees, it's often sweeter and more flavorful than typical beans. The medium roast really plays up the nuttiness, resulting in a coffee with a lot of rich depth and just a hint of sweet vanilla. tip of the tongue Calling all Coffee Geeks: These beans were processed using the pulped natural method, which is unusual for Brazil. A middle ground between washed and natural processing, here's how it works – the cherry fruit is removed and the inner layer (the mucilage) is allowed to remain on the cherry during the drying process, changing the beans' final flavor profile.
But, please – don't feed the birds
Standing ovation
Strong Man Granola
Calling all strong men – and women! Good morning. This granola will get your day off to a seriously tasty start. It's packed with locally sourced nuts, fruit, crispy coconut and super foods like flax and chia seeds, so you'll be ready to flex your muscles (or, you know, go to work). Blackbird Food Co. Granola comes packed in easy-to-close coffee bags with super-appealing labels drawn by owner and chief bird-in-charge Pamela Fabrega. tip of the tongue Slightly chewy and perfumed with cinnamon. Think: oatmeal cookie for breakfast. Or keep a stash in your desk drawer for a 4 p.m. handful.
Molasses Spice Cookies
We love a good ghost story. We also love a good cookie. Grey Ghost Bakery serves up both! This family-run baking company is named after the legendary ghost of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, who is said to alert residents to impending storms. Made from an old family recipe, this chewy molasses spice cookie has the perfect amount of ginger. The sprinkled sugar adds a nice crunch. Boo! tip of the tongue Great with tea or coffee. Or make into an ice cream sandwich with vanilla ice cream. Or, even better, lemon ice cream
Tequila Spiked Chocolate Sauce
Lightly-aged tequila brings out the tropical fruit and caramelized sugar notes in this South American chocolate. It's got a taste of the wild and fun side that earns it the name "One Night Stand," but you'll definitely want a second date. There was a time when it seemed you could get drunk on chocolate sauce alone. See: family photos of baby you, your smiley face happily smeared with it. So it's only logical that someone decided to combine the nostalgia of chocolate sauce with tequila, another adult favorite. It's good to be a grown up. Tip of the Tongue Feisty and feisty go together. Pair this party potion with spicy cinnamon – in an ice cream float or sundae topped with cinnamon ice cream, drizzled over cinnamon coffee cake, or mixed with warm milk and cinnamon to make Mexican hot cocoa.

The Great Guest
We love being invited for the weekend. The mountains, the beach, another city. We're lucky to have friends and family in cool places with extra rooms, or at least an air mattress or two. But how best to thank a wonderful host for those clean towels (beach or otherwise), hot coffee in the morning, and not requiring you to strip the bed? Wine is too obvious. Flowers die. Give the gift of goodies. Tart-sweet organic raspberry jam and addictive farmhouse crackers. Perfect pickles. Our favorite green olive tapenade. Distinctive sweets like salt water taffy and lemon sugar cookies. And, to kick the weekend off right, our secret to the perfect a gin and tonic: extraordinary tonic syrup! This also makes an original gift to bring to a dinner party. In this taster Small Batch Tonic Syrup made by Jack Rudy Sweet Chip Pickles made by Gordy's Bonnie's Black and Blue Jam Ginger Cashew Granola from Granola Lab Peppermint Salt Water Taffy made by Salty Road Organic Raspberry Jam from Heidi's Raspberry Farm Chocolate Espresso Cookies made by Grey Ghost Bakery Fig Almond Spread made by the Gracious Gourmet Organic Trail Mix made by Allgood Provisions Jan's Farmhouse Crisps All this comes packed in our signature cotton Mouth tote bag, along with a few other goodies. *Our makers are truly small-batch, so occasionally we may need to swap an out-of-stock item in a taster for a similar one.
DIY Cold Brew Kit
It's getting warmer! Hot coffee is not for everyone. You need it icy cold. You need it in a tall glass with a straw. And do you really feel like waiting in line for bitter and expensive or settling for watered-down and mediocre? Total buzz-kill. Grady's saves the day with this BIY (brew-it-yourself) iced coffee concentrate, so you can happily sip smooth cold brew whenever the need strikes. We were already huge fans of Grady's, but we have to say this handy (and beautiful) can makes us love them even more. Grady's iced coffee is a New Orleans style blend of roasted coffee and chicory. They've handily packaged the grounds in tea-bag style packages, so you can mix it with water and leave it to steep. You provide a pitcher, some water and settle in for a good nights' rest. Your reward? A week's worth of cold brew, or enough to please a hot crowd, with no muss, no fuss. Each canister provides super-simple instructions – with illustrations – so you get a perfect brew, every time. tip of the tongue Cold Brew Super Power: You can cold-brew directly in the can! Leave 2 bean bags in the can and fill to the top with water. (Just completely dry the can post-brewing to prevent rust!) You can recycle the can, and the bags are compostable.
When brewed hot, we like to use a pour over method, which emphasizes this coffee's bright, tropical notes.
Or a spoon.

I am not a healthy person, and I was sick this spring. I am on doctor-prescribed medication which can produce a lot of unpleasant side-effects that I have to live with every day. I went into Coffee Culture on Dundas this spring in the evening to get some tea. I must have disturbed someone inadvertently because a group of people at the next table started to insult and make fun of me. The waitresses started giving me nasty looks. I could have left, and normally I would have, but I like to remind myself occasionally how ugly people are deep down, and how badly they treat sick people, just in case I ever forget. I sat there and let myself be insulted for two solid hours, in part so I would be sure to remember it, and wouldn't be able to lie about it to myself after. The people at Coffee Culture treated me badly.
A clean and modern coffee house with free Wi Fi access, large TVs, and newspapers available if you want to get caught up in the daily news. Lots of comfy couches in the back, clean and large tables and booths up front, with a few tables outside on the patio as well. I used to stop in here for coffee while waiting for my bus, on the way to work. I've stopped going as a result of the service, however. There was just too many times when I had to wait over 10 minutes just to get a coffee. Under normal circumstances, I don't really mind this, but I have only have about 10 minutes in between my busses, so going here for coffee has actually made me late for work a few times. Plus, it shouldn't take 10 minutes to get one cup of coffee. This is usually the result of someone in front of me ordering fancy drinks and food, but I don't care. I shouldn't have to suffer because someone in front of me wants to order the whole menu. To most of the servers credit, they are always friendly for the most part, except for the woman who is part owner. She always seems aggitated, and on more than one occasion, I've heard her complain that it was too busy. I guess she doesn't like me spending my money there. The coffee is good, and I've had a Ceasar salad and chicken sandwich that were pretty good. But overall, I won't go back because it seems every time I go, I am waiting too long for one reason or another.
