Hair stylist Jon Di Mauro loves making people feel beautiful. “I love the idea of instant change. I like seeing someone come in feeling down and leaving feeling really good about themselves,” says the owner of Evoke Salon in Bloor West Village.
Jon started his career as a stylist at 18 years old. “I was in my last year of high school and did a co-op with a hair salon. I fell in love with the hair business and with making people feel really good about themselves,” he says.
Since opening Evoke Salon’s Bloor West Village location in 2009, Jon has sought to treat customers as special guests. Popcorn is served to waiting customers, an exhaustive drinks menu including cappuccinos and a variety of fruit drinks and teas makes you feel like you’re at a beach bar, and if you book an appointment on your birthday you’ll get a special birthday treat! Getting your hair done on a rainy day? No worries. Evoke provides umbrellas free of charge that are yours to keep. “We’ve tried to surpass people’s expectations of a hair salon,” says Jon.
Personal service at Evoke Salon is paramount. While in many other hair salons a customer’s hair is shampooed by one staff person, cut by a stylist, then blow-dried by someone else, such is not the case at Evoke. “We’re very much a one-on-one customer service environment,” says Jon.
