You can’t help but take a shine to Turn of the Century Lighting. Upon walking into the store, you are bathed in a pool of incandescence. There are overhead lights, floor lamps and table lamps from every era – a Victorian gas lamp from 1850 decorated with a fox and grapes motif (signifying one of Aesop’s fables), a 1920s electric “pan” light with antique pressed glass shades, and an Art Deco lantern with a geometric fan motif from l930.
Owner Michael Rosar is quiet and courteous, but when he starts talking about his business, he waves his arms for emphasis and his eyes gleam just like his lamps. Often, the original lamps he finds are in need of restoration, at which point Michael's imagination and experience come into play. "Parts will need to be added or reproduced in some cases and all lights are restored in historic period style finishes," says Michael. “When you see it finished, it’s like magic. It never ceases to amaze.”
