Regardless of whether you’re looking to treat or trick this year, Calgary has plenty going on during Halloween weekend for the 18-plus crowd. Here are 10 Halloween parties to check out this year if you want to celebrate with a night out on the town.

Royal Canadian Legion

1
116 7 Avenue SE, Calgary AB T2G 0H5

One of Calgary’s favourite Halloween parties, Sled Island teams up with CJSW every year to close out the CJSW funding drive with a massive party. The 2017 edition will be the biggest party yet, with a line-up of more than 15 local bands performing covers of classic jock jams. There’s also going to be karaoke in the basement. It all goes down at the Royal Canadian Legion #1 with doors opening at 8 p.m.

The Gateway Restaurant & Bar

2
V203-1301 16 Ave NW, Calgary AB T2M 0L4

On Oct. 28, Calgary’s hometown indie rock outfit The Dudes perform their annual Halloween show at The Gateway. There are people who attend this event every single year because The Dudes put on such a great live show. There will also be a costume contest with $250 awarded to the best costume and $250 awarded to the best group or duo costume. Hopefully someone dresses up as Danny Vacon.

Nite Owl Club

3
213 10 Ave SW, Calgary AB T2R 0A4

A must for every local music lover, Bands as Bands as Bands is possibly one of the most confusingly fun events. The premise is local bands pretending to be other bands and performing covers of songs by other bands. If that doesn’t make sense, you’ll just have to come watch it all go down for yourself. Doors open at 9 p.m. and tickets are $10. Dressing up is strongly encouraged and dressing up weird is even more strongly encouraged.

Kensington Pub

4
207 10A St NW, Calgary AB T2N 1W7

If you’re looking for some fun to fill your day or want to pre-game before Saturday night, head to Kensington for an afternoon filled with spooky fun and festivities. From 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Vine Styles hosts a free (yes – free) wine tasting. And Hexagon Board Game Café will have tasty butterbeer lattes available for purchase. Wrap up the evening at the Kensington Pub with a retro ‘80s themed costume party.

Flying Squirrel Calgary

5
105-572 Aero Dr NE, Calgary AB T2E 7Y4

An adventurous alternative to the club scene, Flying Squirrel is a massive all ages indoor trampoline park. On Oct. 27 and 28, the park transforms into a neon lit Halloween party complete with strobe lights, black lights, a fog machine and a live DJ. The party takes place from 9 p.m. until midnight and admission is $25.

Hi Fi Club

6
219 10 Ave SW, Calgary AB T2R 0A4

Sometimes, all you want to do is go to the Hifi Club on Friday night and dance to rap music. And that’s exactly what you can do on Oct. 27 during the Halloween edition of Hundred %. DJ C-Sik and Yung Nino will still be there playing your favourite party jams. The only difference is you can dress up in costume if you want to.

The Palace Theatre

7
219 8th Avenue SW, Calgary AB T2P 1B7

The breakout star from the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race (and co-star of Viceland's Trixie & Katya Show) is a drag queen, actress and country singer from Wisconsin. On Oct. 27, Trixie headlines at the Palace Theatre with a set that’ll be equal parts wild and completely mesmerizing. Hot Mess is also hosting a costume contest, so make sure you dress to impress. The finalists will be chosen to walk the stage and the winner gets free admission to all Hot Mess events in 2018… and a trophy.

Paradise Lanes

8
3411 17 Ave SE, Calgary AB T2A 0R3

If you live in Calgary, you’ve probably heard of punk rock bingo. But punk rock bowling? That’s a new one. The event takes place on Nov. 4, the weekend after Halloween.
