Worst restaurant experience EVER at the Golden Basil in Guelph. I took my wife ad 1 yr old daughter to the golden basil and it was absolutely terrible from the moment we sat down. I ordered a can of coke and some spring rolls to start things off, the waiter forgot to bring the coke and the spring rolls came out filled with greasy what appeared to be pho noodles chopped up for filler that was all the rolls contained, no meat or veggies. I ordered a red / chicken and shrimp curry and my wife ordered the pad Thai. After about 10 min the waiter arrived with a yellow BBQ pork curry (didn't know this was a Thai dish) he explained that his Dad made the wrong dish and shoved it in my face, luckily my wife jumped in and explained that I do not eat pork. He took the dish back took the pork off added it to my wife's pad Thai and threw some chicken back on the yellow curry he had originally brought me. The food was not Thai food, the curry did not have any curry to it whatsoever and the pad thai was missing most of the regular ingredients. I would never go back. It was not Thai food it was closer to Chinese food from a food court that would cost about 5 bucks. I'm scared to go to a restaurant again. We ranked it 1star only cause it's the minimum ranking - they should not be in business.
I went to Golden Basil to have dinner with my two friends as one of them suggested that the Thai food was excellent here. When we got our food we were gravely mistaken. The food had no taste to it, it just tasted bland to me. The quantity size was big but I couldn't even finish my food, because the taste was just not what I was expecting. The service did not do anything for me also. The waitresses took forever to come take our order and it took so long for our food to come out, and there were not that many tables at the time either. The waitresses did not smile or even make us feel welcomed. When we needed more water there were no waitresses coming around to check if we needed anything, so I had to go up to the front and ask if they could bring some water around to the table for us. Just a suggestion to the waitresses, for better service, you should always make sure your customers feel satisfied.
I have been to Golden Basil twice in the last month...both times I had very enjoyable meals..maybe not the best Thai food that I've ever had but certainly adequate. Actually, more than adequate. Portion size is generous...food is tasty, service both times was prompt and efficent...atmosphere leaves a little to be desired..but this is a great place for a quick lunch. I would recommend.
I have been searching for some half decent Thai basil chicken in Guelph for quite some time. I was driving past the area and the sign caught my attention so I decided to order take-out and see if the basil chicken was any better than other Thai food restaurants in Guelph. The food was late, was told it would take 15 minuets and it took close to 30, things happen it is understandable although they were not very busy. Once opening the food up and checking it out, the sauce, chicken, veggies and even the noodles were absolutely identical to Tom Yum on Gordon in every way shape and form, they must both get their supplies at the same store. The only difference was I got chopsticks and less rice at Golden Basil, and the food took six times longer here than Tom Yum (food was ready in 5 min). *This review is for Golden Basil and Tom Yum since the dish I ordered was identical to the one from Tom Yum two nights earlier* This goes without saying the food quality was quite poor, this is the Thai equalivant of Sun Suns downtown Guelph for Chinese. Nothing more than an abundance of greasy sauce, low quality chicken, some cheap noodles and chopped up peppers. One of my favorite features of Thai food is it is usually fairly light and non-greasy, this stuff is pretty heavy and really makes a mockery of a real basil chicken. I can't comment on the staff as I was not seated at the restaurant but while waiting for my food they seemed fairly friendly. Protip: go to Tom Yum if you are interested in 'American' Thai food that is identical to Golden Basil, cheaper, and ready six times as fast.
I went here with my sister and was not impressed. The food wasn't too bad but when i went to the washroom, I saw something i would never want to see in a public washroom. Does no one clean the washrooms? It definitely ruined my appetite. Golden Basil please clean your washroom. And when i told the waitress politely about it, she just said "oh really?". And then I see her talking to her other co-worker while looking at our table, they probably think I'm rude while I was only trying to help. Even after I told him, I expected them to go do something about it. But they didnt.
The best place to experience Thai&Viet Cuisin! The service is always awesome! I always enjoy my stay at Golden Basil, so I would say "ignore the negative reviews". Golden Basil has the most D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S drinks ever! As for the food, there are no words to describe but, utterly a taste-of-delight. GIVE IT A TRY I know I'll be eating my dinner at Golden Basil :)
I used to love Golden Basil. Very good service about a year ago now Very bad service. The waitress needs to smile more. the people there was not friendly at all. The food came out fast but too much pad thai on the plate. I got bored. Everything tasted boring after a while. Didn't bother to bring left overs home. Not enough basil for my pho. I wish Golden Basil would have a more friendly atmosphere. Seemed like the girls severing us there were mad at each other or something.
The Pho I had was fair but I've had a much better in Brampton. Fairly tasteless. Not served with hot peppers. Lime didn't look fresh. Price was slightly more than I wanted to pay for a bowl. Service was good
Food was very good, the service was very good, the price was expensive. No lunch specials or anything. The Shrimp Satay was SO good...I would go back and just order that. Yummy. Overall it was a great experience. The bill at the end was quite a shock for just having lunch though. Yummy Bubble Tea too...Normally I hate bubble tea...I ordered it to share with my toddler and I ended up really loving it.
Excellent service, excellent food. Compliments to a well run operation! Obviously these people know what they are doing.
There for lunch, seated immediately. Ice water was delivered and then hot tea. Very, very clean. Shrimp rolls came out very quickly and were nice and fresh. Pho was larger than expected, had fresh basil, freshly washed bean sprouts and nice flavour (I did add some chili and hosien sauce). My partner enjoyed the spicy beef - the rice smelled incredible. The only trouble we had was their Debit and Visa were out of order that day but they apologized profusely and and we just used the bank in their parking lot. We will be back to try the pad thai!
me and my lady - we just love the place. Everything is awesome about this place.Especially the food!!
Not your traditional chicken wings, these were stuffed with the chicken, spices and vermicelli noodles. They were really good. One of the dishes they forgot to leave the red peppers and green peppers out of it but they replaced it willingly. The restaurant was clean and staff was helpful.
