When the dream of becoming a famous filmmaker failed, Daniel Frankel parlayed the lessons he learned into a new venture. In a plot twist, the filmmaker went from creating movies to building a chain of five highly successful restaurants, including TAPshack.
“What I love about motion pictures is the ability to create a story – to take the viewer out of their reality and inject them into an entirely new narrative, creating a unique experience,” explains Daniel, the CEO and president of Daniel Group, which owns and operates three Tap & Barrel restaurants and two TAPshack eateries. “The restaurant business is not so different. Now I get to create this narrative with other tools – creating a warm and inviting vibe, and touching on all senses from feel, touch, smell, taste and sight.”
He launched into the hospitality industry in 2001 with the Mill Marine Bistro & Bar (now TAPshack's Coal Harbour location). And, in May 2016, the Pirate Pub reemerged as TAPshack's Burrard Bridge location.
