My best dining experience by far since coming to live in Canada. I had rack of lamb which was just super and my husband had a striploin steak which was thick and juicy. Not too many vegetables and a wonderful pear shaped mashed potatoe croquette. Every morsel of food was perfect. We will be back
My husband and I dined at the Purple Pear this evening for the first time. First impression was not great, We waited at the front door with multible employees passing us with no welcome and we had made a reservation. We were seated at our choice of tables and waited at least 10 minutes for a menu or drink order. However, our experience excelled from there. We had a couple of cocktails, and looked over the menu. Our server was also the owner, and he did a great job. We ordered a Caesar Salad and Seafood chowder to start. Both were delecious. We were dissapointed in the wine list, but our dinners made up for it. I ordered the filet medium rare and the quality of meat literally melted in my mouth. My husband ordered a rib steak and really enjoyed it. I saw the previous comments about outdated decor, and do not agree at all. I thought the restaurant looked classy and think there should be more restaurants in Hamilton that have the same feel. I look forward to entertain more friends at the Purple Pear!
I've been to the Purple Pear many times over the years, and as far as I am concerned, the value is off the charts. Some of my particular favourites are the crab legs, mixed grill (special), liver steak. There are usually really excellent specials on offer. They always do something extra with the vegetables which elevates the meal above the average fine dining restaurant. I consider the Purple Pear to be one of Hamilton's real jewels.

This was my first time at Purple Pear, after hearing excellent comments from friends and colleagues. That being said, I was still pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality and appearance of the food, I have paid quite a bit more for comparable value. The food was fresh, hot, and had attractive creative accents, a nice assortment of breads and the coffee was very good. The service was excellent, the proprietors, Victor and Debbie, were very professional and pleasant and it is lovely to patronize a private business where personal pride and service is so evident. There was ample and convenient close parking. The background music was appropriate for the season and at a good volume for conversation. I was in a larger party, during the busy Christmas season and am eager to return soon with my husband so that he can enjoy the experience.
