Fast, fresh and delicious Cambodian food! Very authentic food and service is excellent! Been going here for years and always dine here when I visit Kingston. Wish Ottawa had this restaurant!!!!
I know the management has been different for almost over a year now, and even though the food certainly tastes alot different than before, it is still a great place to eat. The food and service is fast and efficient, and portions are reasonable. I'll be coming back for many more visits... But what I don't understand is, after reading the review below me, how can someone call say that they don't sell Cambodian/Thai food? ...it doesn't get any more "Thai" than phad thai and red curry chicken!
After reading the other reviews, I have to say that I agree. The new management really did wreck the menu, but here's my thought: Why do they make Cambodian/Thai food when they are infact neither Cambodian or Thai?? I think that's the real reason. The food is awful because they themselves probably don't enjoy them! Where's the love gone??
I've been coming here for quite a while, but only after the management was changed. I'm still pretty impressed by this place, but a lot of these reviews are based on how it compares on what it USED to be, not what it is now. So based on what this restaurant is now, the food is great, and I still can't believe how incredibly fast my food is (I wait as little as 2 minutes for my food if there's only a few people there). So I don't know how good this place used to be, but if it really did used to be as good as some of these people say, it must have been the greatest restaurant in the world!
The name says it all! the best pad thai i've had in kingston!
I don't know what you people are talking about, the food is still excellent...and the service is so fast. I will keep coming back to this place until its closed, this is a restaurant I would visit Kingston just to eat at!
the new management is horrible and the food just doesn't taste the same without the love...
The food is excellent, the prices are low, the waitresses are nice (Not the absolute best though but still good), and i've been here so many times i've lost count. Great restaurant, highly recommend it
I've been a long time customer here at Cambodiana and it has always been my favourite restauant in town. When the new management came in, I was just about as disappointed as anyone else. Sure, the food was different from before but that doesn't mean I won't eat here ever again. The food here is still great and is still one of my top restaurants in Kingston. If you're a long time visitor and is afraid of change, don't come again but if you've never been here before and you're looking for a great and exotic place to eat, Cambodiana is still a great place to go.
it was amazing, i wanted to order more so that i could put it in my mouth on my way home. also i wanted more to eat when i got home and to feed my pet dylan. I also wanted some for my freezer. for later when my wife came home....for "food" overall, the prices were great, the service great and i will come again.
This is definitely one of my most favourite restaurants in Kingston. The service is very good and the food tastes great (and it's pretty fast). Highly reccommend coming here and I will visit again
What the heck happened??? I go just before summer and order the #6. It is spicy with great flavour and has thai chili peppers in it. I go in September and it is bland, smaller portion and no chili peppers but green beans???. I am told the restaurant has new owners. If so, why break what was working. Go back to the other owners recipes and people will come back.
I have to agree with the rest of the reviewers. This place used to be fantastic but the new management has mae it something less than fantastic. The pad thai was awful (what was up with that sauce?) and the number one was mediocre at best. I will not be returning.
New management. I had the Thai Green curry, which used to be a flagship dish of the restaurant. It has gone from rich to bland in flavor and hot to mild in spiciness. It's hard to judge it. It's still far better than other Cambodian-Thai restaurants I've been to in Canada, but when judged against other Cambodian-Thai restaurants in Kingston, which I consider world class, it pales in comparison. I guess, in the end, if you're in Kingston, go elsewhere.
Cambodiana used to be a favorite of mine, however new management and chefs have ruined the food. The dishes used to be savoury and the portions were generous, favorites were the pad thai, # 5 and # 6. While the portions are still big, the pad thai is barely edible: the noodles are overcooked, watery and rendered completely flavourless- it is very mushy. The number 5, now contains celery and zuchini, gone are the red peppers, the juicy onions and the general flavour of the dish. The dish is bland, the rice is overcooked and mushy. I sincerely hope this business gets their act together, I will not be returning until I have heard they've got it together.
This used to be my absolute favourite restaurant in Kingston. The food was consistently excellent. The other day, though, I had the #1 (Phanaeng Kai). The rice was overcooked and, what was much worse, there was hardly any curry sauce on the rice. I didn't find out until later that the place is under new management, as my husband brought it home to me. The flavour and consistency of the sauce was the same as ever, but there just wasn't very much of it and, of course, it's the sauce that makes or breaks the dish. I am cautiously optimistic that the near absence of sauce was an honest mistake, and I will give Cambodiana another chance. If it happens again, though...I may have to seek out another Cambodian restaurant.
The #6 with tofu is my favourite dish there, and no else made it like the old chef. I'd have to agree with the previous review; this new management thing has wrecked their food. The dish was basically flavourless, with the exception of the flavour of tamarind. Nothing about it resembled what it used to be. I'm so disappointed; they were one of the better, if not the best thai/cambodian spots downtown.
It's under new management now, and I haven't tried anything else, and probably wont since this was bad, but number 15 phad thai is not the same, noodles a little over cooked, and sauce is of a creamier consistency, yet very liquid at the bottom, kinda like the oil has separated. Anyway not good, and this is sad because it was a great spot. Anyone know where the old chef has gone now?
This is my favorite restaurant in town! There are very few tables but the food is just unbelivable. I love all dishes there, especially the super spicy green curry soup!
I had dish #4 ... it was fantastic. The flavour was perfect and the portion size was amazing considering the low price! My friends dishes were equally pleasing. I have never had Cambodian food before.... it is similar to Vietnamese (which I prefer over Thai and 'Chinese'). I also enjoy the small size of the restaurant as it is more intimate... the only downfall is that it gets very busy!!!! But when the food and service is so great..... it is worth the wait!
